It somehow feels very slow in the beginning, so I was losing interest after the flower shop.It feels kinda unfair to say that I don't recommend the game, but I wouldn't recommend it, so I guess that's not recommending it.. Incorrigible indeed.. Lamplight City's constant obsession with being politically correct, leads it to completely miss its mark as a Steampunk detective mystery.. My husband and I love mysteries and playing detective games, so I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a point and click adventure that will allow you to accuse the wrong person of the crime. The story of the game was satisfying and gave the player time to develop theories about the various cases they needed to solve. I appreciated the red herrings and the slight hint of the supernatural in the steampunk setting. There were a plethora of locations to explore and some great voice acting. The writing was good and made me sympahtize with the characters. I was especially fond of Adelaide and Bill. I did get stuck a few times and reloaded a few times, due to getting locked out of a location because I had approached it poorly the first time. Overall, I felt very satisfied with the ending of the game and with the choices available to me.. I have not played a better point and click adventure game in a long time. Though it reminds you of the old games, it is very modern, thought through and plays like a charm. The story is immersive and it is able to be funny as well without spoiling the immersive experience. I just want more.. Great game! I love the time period. Puzzles are not very difficult at all, you just have to pay attention. Great voice-acting too! Definitely recommend this one! Would love to see a sequel.. With great love for the setting and subject matter I sadly have to say that I didn't enjoy this game, in spite of having tried. The cases and the overarching story fit together well in a broad sense and Grundislav Games have great potential, but it slowly falls apart when you start to deal with the nitty gritty. The storytelling is somewhat anachronistic as it incorporates modern beliefs and attitudes as if they are happening in a fictional 19th century setting. The way the writers deal with serious themes like addiction or relationships gives a hint that they themselves don't have a nuanced or fully matured picture of what these are, which then retroactively makes me think that they also had trouble portraying historic personalities.Cases are designed in a way that requires you to have a lot of multiple save states. While this is all fine in a retro gaming sense, it also paints a picture of bad game design. Talking to a person in the wrong order can fail you a case, but you don't find out until way later.Nitpicking, the engine is lacking basic functionality like going to the menu whenever you'd like. But that shouldn't hold you off from buying, the previous stuff should.. This is not an overly difficult game but it was really enjoyable. The story and setting are so engrossing that you could easily play through to the end in a single day just because you can't get away from it. Games like this are really revitalising the point and click genre.. Look At People Talk: The Game.. Lamplight City is just about everything I could want in an adventure game. Mysteries to solve, choices to make, pitfalls to avoid, and characters written well enough to care about. Setting wise, it's also a love letter to everything steampunk. If you're a fan of sherlock holmes or thomas edison alike, you'll probably get well invested into the world the game takes place in.Being an adventure game, you'd want the story to shine front and center, and it for sure does. 5 unique cases, 4 individuals, and the 5th which acts as a tie in of little threads from the previous cases, but primarily is a closer to the question from the prologue the game has been teasing the whole way through. Each case is well thought out, with multiple conclusions you're allowed to draw (both right and wrong) and is rife with puzzles of varying difficulty. This in my opinion is one of the few flaws the game has. While the puzzles are smart, finding the clues you need can sometimes be a bit of a pixel hunt. Usually this comes in the form of not being able to go to a new destination, or discuss a specific topic with someone unless and until the you find the minute detail the game has deemed vital to following the plot thread. It never impedes the gameplay too badly, but do expect to pour over every area with a fine toothed comb to complete a case. The art direction for the game is beautiful, and harkens back to a 90's era of point and click graphics. Think gabriel knight or monkey island. It's a style that has a timeless appeal to it, and it's done well and backdropped with beautiful cityscapes. Conversations are carried out in a separate black screen, with animated portraits (fully and well voice acted too!) The portraits look great, and show a range of emotions as characters react to conversation topics.Overall, Lamplight City is an absolute joy of an adventure game. I took my time to enjoy all the little details the world had to offer (and got stumped now and again) and the game ran me about 35 hours. This may vary for you if your goal is to just blitz through the cases, but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you did. If you allow it to, the world and characters really come alive. And while the game can sometimes be pixel hunty, it by no means detracts from the overall gameplay. A full recommendation.
